Biography

Dr Sally Spankie (Exposure Assessment Scientist, Institute of Occupational Medicine) is a chemist/occupational hygienist by training with expertise in workplace exposure monitoring and risk management of chemicals. Sally has particular interest in metals, and has had considerable involvement undertaking occupational and consumer exposure assessments and preparing generic exposure scenarios to support clients in the metal and additives industries meet their REACH obligations. She has worked on several consultancy projects which have focused on inhalation and dermal exposure assessment in the metal producing and chemical manufacturing industries. In addition, Sally has worked on several projects involving the use of Tier 1 and higher tier exposure assessment models to generate exposure estimates. Sally has recently been involved in preparing health and safety guidance, with particular focus on regulatory standards, hazard communication, and exposure control in the metals and nano sectors.
