Mike Brandt

Biography

Michael Brandt is the Associate Director for Environment, Safety, and Health.  Prior to joining ADESH in April 2011, Mike served for nearly five years as the Senior Executive Advisor in PADOPS, focusing on institutional performance assurance and quality improvement.  He has more than 30 years of professional experience in risk, operations, business, and project management, working in industry (synthetic fuels, chemicals, manufacturing), research and development, and academic settings. He has an established track record of results in technical and operations management during 30 years of broad Laboratory service, which includes managing ESH programs and services, restarting facilities, managing facilities and maintenance, leading organizational change and startup, performing strategic planning, and leading institutional quality improvement.

Mike received his doctorate in public health with a specialty in environmental health sciences from the University of Michigan where he also earned a Master’s degree in Public Health Policy.  He has a Master’s of Science in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Cook College of Rutgers University. Mike is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and a Certified Project Management Professional and has published more than 40 papers and delivered more than 100 invited technical, scientific, and leadership presentations. He holds academic appointments at the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at Tulane University and at the College of Public Health at the University of Oklahoma.  He also lectures in Environmental and Occupational Health at the University of New Mexico Medical School.

Mike served as a Past President of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the premier association of industrial hygiene professionals with more than 10,000 members worldwide.  During his ten years of volunteer service with AIHA, he also served as a President, President-elect, Vice President, Director and Treasurer.  He was elected fellow of the AIHA in 2007 and he continues to serve on numerous technical and leadership committees.
