Biography

Andy Gillies is a senior Occupational Hygienist and Environmental consultant with over 35 years of practical experience of EH&S working in the steel-making and chemical industries and, since 1995 when he founded Gillies Associates Ltd, the consultancy field.  Andy has MSc’s in both Occupational Hygiene and Environmental Management and was President of the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) from 2006-2007.  He is a Chartered Occupational Hygienist, a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene and a Practitioner member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (PIEMA).

Andy has held a variety of roles within the Occupational Hygiene profession, including past-President of the Institute of Occupational Hygienists, Hon. Secretary, British Examining and Registration Board in Occupational Hygiene, oral examiner (1992 to date), and chair of the REACH Topic Group of BOHS (2005 – 2008).  He is a member of the Breathe Freely Construction Steering Group and co-chair of the BOHS Working Group on efficiency of exposure controls.  He has lectured widely and published articles and research on many aspects of recognition, evaluation and control of health hazards in the workplace.
